About the values test

Your core values are the deep, underlying priorities that guide your decisions, relationships, and sense of a meaningful life — often operating well below conscious awareness. When your life is genuinely aligned with your core values, decisions tend to feel clearer and more fulfilling. When it isn't, even objectively "good" circumstances can feel quietly unsatisfying, without it always being obvious why.

This test measures eight common core values — Freedom, Security, Connection, Achievement, Growth, Creativity, Integrity, and Impact — and ranks your top three based on your genuine responses. Your results page goes beyond a ranked list, offering a real profile of what each of your top values means, how it shows up when honored versus neglected, and practical ways to live more fully in alignment with what actually matters to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are core values?
Core values are the fundamental priorities and principles that guide your decisions and sense of a meaningful life — things like freedom, connection, achievement, or integrity. They often operate below conscious awareness, but living in alignment with them tends to correlate strongly with a sense of fulfillment, while living out of alignment often produces a vague, hard-to-name dissatisfaction.
Why does knowing my values matter?
Clarity about your core values makes big decisions — career changes, relationships, how you spend your time — significantly easier to navigate, because you have a clear internal reference point rather than relying purely on external expectations or what seems impressive to others.
Can my values change over time?
Yes. While some values tend to be fairly stable across a lifetime, major life experiences, relationships, and personal growth can shift which values are most central to you at different points in your life. It's worth retaking this test periodically, especially after a significant life change.
How long does the test take?
About 4 minutes — 24 questions, answered one at a time on a five-point scale.
What if my top values feel contradictory, like Security and Freedom?
This is common and not actually a contradiction — most people hold multiple values that require some ongoing balance rather than one being simply "right" and the other "wrong." Your results page will help you think through how to honor more than one value at once.
Is this test based on real psychological research?
Yes — it draws on established frameworks in values-clarification psychology, including Schwartz's Theory of Basic Human Values, one of the most widely used models in personality and social psychology research.
